Do your own background check on your contractors!

Tuesday April 18, 2017

There has been talk in the news recently of fraudulent unlicensed contractors. The Construction Contractors Board website is a great resource and should be used when hiring a contractor, plumber, electrician, etc. We will provide a link below to the CCB’s contractor search page. The easiest way to look up a contractor is by their CCB number which should be displayed on their business card or any advertisement. Be sure to look at the contractor’s Complaint History in their current license as well as in any associated or inactive licenses if they have them. It’s not easy to file a complaint with the CCB. The CCB charges $50 if they agree to accept a complaint, the parties then participate in a form of mediation, the complainant will then possibly need to file a claim in small claims court in order to collect. The process is much more difficult and involved than a Google review or BBB complaint. Word of mouth is also extremely valuable so ask around.

Here’s that link for your search: https://www.ccb.state.or.us/search/default.aspx
